The more likely it is for the setting to feature attacks that are Contact (Skin Permeable), the more likely I am to go with "Buy as much as you like, but it also has to have Does Not Stack With Armor".

Armor just gives me lots of headaches in general, so its an example that springs readily to mind. But its those 'some of this seems to fit the concept, but, to much does not' is the trickier part, as opposed to the things 'Sure, this easily holds true to concept!' or 'this means a new concept!'

Bob the Barbarian being able to take a hit that would nastily wound a lesser man and be not so much wounded? Yeah, totally true to concept. But, does that mean 'laughs off wimpy goblin shortbow arrows' or 'laughs off musketry'

Usually I've allowed around DR 6 tough skin, or tough skin, can't wear armor for our barbarians friends who cover only enough for a modicum of decency. I'll allow more if the concept seems more proper for more, like 'dragon' or 'troll' or even 'giant dog'

Btw, the 'giant dog' in these examples was a real character!

On the 'Spending Points' and the 'Giant Dog' another example of spending points in gameplay

After Barney the Giant Dog has gotten parried several times by a goblin with a staff
Player 'Say, Barney can slam and then his entire ST counts as weight to parry right?'
Me 'Yep!'
Player 'Cool! I want to do that . . oh, whats damage?'
Me 'Damage is X, +1 per die from your Brawling . . . oh, say, if you buy Sumo to DX+2 then you can have +2 per die on your slam!'
Player 'Lets do it!'

Because a giant dog (I imagine the Polar Bear Dog from Korra) should hit like a truck when it slams, why not let it buy sumo on the spot? Or so I figured.

Also noticed the post discussed awarding CP . . . . I've always felt CP should in general be around enough to raise something every session, or to save up. Since to raise a skill is 4, I tend to award at least 4, but sometimes more, and often bonuses for accomplishments such as 'we actually complete a multi session adventure!'

I don't really vary my amount of CP based on the CP of the characters though, I give 62 CP characters and 700 CP characters basically similar awards per session . . . . the 62 CP characters will of course double their CP total much faster than the 700 CP ones, but that seems reasonable to me, my experience from other games has always been the more you level, the slower additional leveling becomes . . . so . . I guess never really questioned it!

In other systems I've given more CP as characters got more leveled, but that was because they used scaling costs to upgrade . . . . so for a mookly starting D6 Star Wars character to raise their feeble skills cost less than a heavier weight character to do the same . . . so in order to make sure people could still always at least upgrade something I awarded more CP. So you could raise your blaster from 12d to 12d+1 for a higher end character, or 6d to 6d+1 for a lower end one . . . . but obviously 6d to 6d+1 is a bigger jump percentage wise than 12d to 12d+1

So . . . given constant costs of upgrades in GURPS, I've given out constant CP . . . but . . that might well be sub optimal, because yes, +1 skill is +1 skill . . . but going from 25 to 26 is less meaningful than say, 11 to 12

Interesting

GURPS101: FP Cost Limited by Margin

A random idea about abilities that cost FP depending on the margin of success on the roll to activate.
