Default Hockeystaff as a weapon

1) What stats would a hockeystaff used as a weapon have?

2) Then what if you design it as a weapon first, and secondly to look like a hockeystaff?

2b) What if the edge is sharpened? What if it's sharpened on the inside (like a hook sword) instead?

----

1) I am guessing this would just be a short staff (like a Jo from Low Tech), but cheap quality for being light-weight and with a skill penalty for being improvised (and not as well balanced).

2) This could just be a staff, but if the head is heavy enough to act like a weapon, I don't think it would be as balanced as a staff, and I think it ought to get +2 to swing attacks (still crushing).
So maybe a polearm with Sw+2 cr. Reach: 1,2*. But NOT unbalanced parry.

2b) This is actually the part I am most interested in for a slightly cinematic character in a near-future setting. But this is also where I am most unsure about the stats.
I am guessing it's stat should match nr. 2) pretty well, but just with cut dam instead of crushing?

Since hockey stick 'blades' are either wood or a composite plastic, you're pretty much stuck doing crushing damage. For stats I'd say: Dam sw-1 cr; Reach 1,2; Parry 0; WT 2; and ST 5†.

If you made the blade out of metal, then sure, cut away...

For stats I'd go with Dueling Glaive if it's designed to be a weapon and is just disguised as a hockey stick.

I'd be inclined to say if it's actually made of something that will take an edge and sharpened to the point is has one, it probably *cannot* be successfully disguised as a hockey stick, even from a distance.

Are these symmetrically balanced enough for that? My first guess for something with one end weighted over the other would be that it's a club (using Two Handed Axe/Mace skill), not Staff.

With the experience from having used these as a kid, I'd say that a proper hockey stick is balanced enough to use with Staff -skill, although they're very light and not as tall as proper quarterstaffs, so a short staff sounds like a good approximation.

...now I'm confused. What sort of hockey stick has a blade on it?

I thought he meant sharpening the wooden blade. If you rebuild it to have a metal blade, it's a polearm (probably that dueling glaive). If you sharpen the wooden blade, then it's a dueling glade made out of wood, as a bokken is to a katana. Though a quick glance through MA and LTC didn't show me rules for alternative weapon materials.

The "business end" of a hockey stick is sometimes called the blade, even though it is conventionally not sharpened.

I wonder why? Hockey sticks are really super light weight.
