Default Monster hunter load out question

In the the book it describes one of the guns as below;

"First Range figure is minimum range, not 1/2D"

What does that mean please? It's for the BFR gun.

You can't shoot at anything closer than this range.

You seem to be miss-reading the table. On page 10, the Magnum BFR has [1] in the notes column. That's for the notes block between Guns (Pistol) and Guns (Shotgun), where it means "No lanyard ring".

The Note [1] that says "First Range figure is minimum range, not 1/2D." is further down the page and is for Guns (Grenade Launcher) weapons.

For grenade launchers it also means that the grenade won't be armed yet at that range. You could shoot somebody with one but wouldn't explode.

When you see such a note for indirect fire weapons like mortars it's literally that you can't aim the weapon at anyone that close.
