Hold Fast enchantment
Hold fast has a simple effect; it stops knockback equal to the energy put into it. I look down at the item, and find it says always on. How does that work? Is the item just plainly better?
Another question: is the spell costed right? Should it function as a flat cost to stop all knockback instead? |

Re: Hold Fast enchantment
Where is this item (book & page)?
I imagine the "always on" means you pick how much energy is put in at creation so it is always powered at that level. So a Hold Fast item with energy for 2 yards of knockback that is always on means you never have to think about it, just remove 2 yards of knockback every time it comes up. Without always on, you would have to put the energy in every time you need it, up to the limit of the enchantment, which might be too late if you get ambushed.

Re: Hold Fast enchantment
Reading it, I would say it's 300 energy to make the item have the Hold Back spell, after which YOU must supply the 1 energy per yard of knockback. I'm a generous GM, so I would just allow it to be done in response to knockback at any time, even out of turn (hence, it is always on). But no free lunch, supply the energy yourself or add Power (p57) or a Power Stone (p69) of some kind, likely dedicated.

Re: Hold Fast enchantment
But unlike other enchantments that give the spell, this one says "Always On". That's what gets me. Maybe it's supposed to be 300 per energy and just never finished the sentence?

Re: Hold Fast enchantment
That's the way I'd go with it, for what it's worth. And I'll go add that to my campaign notes before I forget :)

Re: Hold Fast enchantment
But 300 per energy to do what? The spell burns a number of FP equal to the number of yards of knockback. There is no set distance reduction, unlike things like Vigor that give a fixed, levelled bonus. Thus there are no levels to enchant, just the spell itself. Being always on means any time you suffer knockback you can spend FP to negate it, no rolls required.

Re: Hold Fast enchantment
Oh that makes sense. The way I was saying is 300 energy stops 1 knockback always, 600 stops 2, and so on.
Either way sounds good. |
