My Future RPG world
This is my world that I'm developing for my own roleplaying game. It is in the future and cut up into eras.
Here is my idea for what the future eras will be after the Information Age. Era 1: Post-information Age -The immediate future. 20 or 30 years Era 2: Fusion age -The advent of sustained fusion power leads to the end of fossil fuels and unlimited energy Era 3: Nano age -Nanotechnology takes off and permeates every aspect of life Era 4: Interstellar Age -Humans discover Faster-than-light travel and are able to explore the galaxy Era 5: Intergalactic Age -Humans figure out how to transverse the intergalactic void and explore the universe Era 6: Energy Age -Humans figure out how to convert themselves to pure energy. Omnipotence is achieved and humans live in their own designer universe. Can someone think of 10 future technologies/inventions for each era? Thanks!!! * |

Have you looked at Ultra-Tech?

Re: My Future RPG world
I agree that you should look at GURPS Ultratech at least as a guide.
I think you should call era #1 something else. Calling it the post Information Age tells you what it isn't, not what it is. I would call it something like the Robotic Age instead. I will have a think about some possible inventions and come back to you.

Re: My Future RPG world
My own space opera setting has the following eras:
Second Space Race - near future (TL9) -- Genetic engineering and cloning -- Interplanetary travel -- L4 and L5 Lagrange Point/Trojan Stations -- Cybernetic/Bionic prostheses -- Caseless and ETC ammunition -- Less-Than-Lethal Energy Weapons (electrolasers, pain beams, etc.) -- Re-institution of company towns on many extraterrestrial colonies -- Outlawing of VR tech -- Enslavement of genetically-engineered "non-human" races -- First space piracy -- Ubiquitous Augmented Reality Human-Pondrur Wars -- STL and Lightspeed Interstellar Exploration (TL9-10) -- Fast STL travel, succeeded by Lightspeed drives late in the period -- Introduction of laser weaponry alongside gauss weapons -- First encounters with alien races; humans still fight each other, too, leading some aliens to decide we're nuts -- Interstellar wars occur for 150-odd years. -- Semi-Portable Fusion Reactors -- Non-Humanoid Mecha Third Space Race/Interstellar Expansion (TL10) -- FTL based on hyperspace/wormhole physics -- Stable antimatter reactors -- Force shield technology makes portable fusion viable -- Field-Jacketing of energy weapons -- IR Lasers and Gauss weapons -- Anti-gravity and Artificial gravity -- Older colonies gain independence Unification Wars (TL11) -- Blasters replace laser weapons; rainbow lasers replace gauss weapons, save for grenade launchers -- standard space opera superscience -- Earth finally unifies, tries to unify entire sector under its rule Battlesuits are used by elite forces; in all time periods, most forces tend to use clamshell or ballistic fabric for armor. Genetic engineering never gets above TL9, and nanotech is never able to take off. Does this help at all?

Re: My Future RPG world
You might want to look at general guidelines for how technology improves rather than specific inventions. For example in the case of 3D printing, it has already been invented however in Era #1 it improves enough to be a cost effective manufacturing technique for small quantities of simple designs. In Era #2 it improves and may be used for mass production of simple components and by Era #3 it can be used to cost effectively produce nearly anything on any scale.
