Default Flat Ogre question

Does anyone here use the flat ogres?

Nope. I was one of the folks who wanted more conventional units instead of flat Ogres.

I actually bought two spare flat Ogre sheets (J1 if memory serves), they are nice, but don't get used much now with the minis available.

yes, but only for special reasons:
  • travel set where space is a premium (also use classic counter ogres)
  • games with lots of ogres that tend to overrun (they stack better)
  • need a unique color of something that's not a Mark III/V

I prefer flat, single-hex ogres. Stacking ogres is a powerful tactic, even just a powerful threat, especially in a narrowly focused battle. Oversized 3D ogres make that tactic physically awkward at best, confuse the location of the ogres at worst.

The first try at flat ogres was a miss. Yes, they were flat. But they were bigger than a single hex, so they didn't solve all the problems with the 3D ogres.

That said, for tan-map no stacking games the oversized 3D ogres and miniatures are much more inspiring, especially for new players.
