Re: Just Roll 3d6 - GURPS Content Posts
Good article! But, then, I would say that because you're describing how I GM. :)
It does require some skill and trust, but it works really well. And sometimes a character's failure will spark great ideas in players. The GM/Player feedback loop can be a wonderful thing.

A good third article. I read the very first one (Why Play GURPS?), which is also very interesting.
It's really important to speak to newcomers who don't already know all the fine detail of GURPS. |

Nice work on the blog posts. The point you make about Task Difficulty Modifiers is advice I often give. (Even if I don't always follow it myself.)
One minor nit-pick. In the "Why Play GURPS?" post you say that "two things you won’t find in GURPS publications are pre-made adventure modules or extensive setting books." While it's true that that GURPS adventure modules are rare, they aren't non-existent; and there are a reasonable number of available settings, even if you are just looking at 4e. |

Re: Just Roll 3d6 - GURPS Content Posts
There are settings for GURPS, yes. But no true "extensive setting books", that is full developed settings with all maps, generic non-player characters with all required stats to play directly (merchant, soldier, guard, thug ...), full bestiaries, and a couple of adventure examples.
GURPS books are fine and give a lot of amazing ideas to play. No problem with that. But, except some exception here or there, they are not really ready to play stuff, directly out of the box. GMs always have work to do. Last edited by Gollum; 03-02-2016 at 02:08 PM. |

I'd say Banestorm is ready to play, but that's about it for 4E.

Re: Just Roll 3d6 - GURPS Content Posts
I was a little too glib that there are no pre-made settings or adventures for GURPS, but it really isn't a strength of the system. However, this discussion makes me think that there's an opportunity for discussing how to easily take other settings or adventures and translate them to GURPS.
I'm envisioning something much less than a full-on conversion - the goal would be to get character concepts and plot hooks right and then let the minutiae work itself out. Hmm…I'll have to experiment with this. |
