Default Very Fit & Extra Effort

Very fit halves the rate at which you loose fatigue due to exertion, heat exhaustion, etc. However, in my experience, most fatigue loss from exertion in a campaign ends up being in the from of using extra effort (usually in combat but often for other things). And most fatigue loss from these effects are in increments of single points for specific tasks.

So...
- Does Very Fit help with extra effort at all? If it does, how does that work?

On related notes...
- Does Very Fit halve the rate at which you lose fatigue from all hazards (e.g. hypothermia or suffocation)? Just double checking since it says it helps with heat.
- Does Very Fit halve the fatigue loss from encumbrance at the end of combat?

I may have more questions that i'm not thinking of right now.

Fit/Very Fit do not affect "instant" FP loss, only FP loss over time.

Where does it say that? (it doesn't under the advantage description in characters.)

Also, Fit does help with instant FP loss (it helps you recover it at twice the normal rate.)

Also a Very Fit character will lose only 2 FP after being great hasted, and take halve FP damage from FP related attacks.

Quoting How to be a GURPS GM P.48:

Quote:
Fit and Very Fit (p. B55): Give bonuses to all HT rolls,
improving chances to avoid unconsciousness, death, poison
damage, etc. Also improves the rates at which FP are normally
lost and gained, but specifically does not help recovery for
fatigue spent to power magic or psionics, or lost to things like
drugs, stunners, etc.

Yeah, that's what I thought. But it still doesn't answer the question of extra effort on mundane tasks.

The problem is there is no half of 1 FP loss for it, and I don't know how it'd help if you used it for jumps and throws which are instant only.

I believe you could possibly rule as GM that you can use it to extend the duration 1 FP gets you, for example:

Quote:
Digging: For every hour of digging,
make an extra-effort roll and pay 1 FP.
This adds to the usual FP cost. On a
critical failure, the injury is to your
back, and will heal only with rest (not
First Aid); on an 18, you temporarily
acquire the Bad Back disadvantage
(p. 123).
Perhaps every two hours instead.

Yes.

Page B55 expressly lists exertion as one of the types of FP loss it covers. Page B426 identifies Extra Effort as a type of exertion.

Dunno what's RAW, we just let characters with this trait track FP by half points.

The RAW would be you lose the normal amount of FP instantly from exertion, and then recover it at double the normal rate.

Gurps 4th ed. does not do half points in any way, shape, or form. If you instantly suffer fatigue it rounds up to a whole number. So 2 lost becomes 1, but 1 lost stays 1.
