PS... remember a Hare is NOT a rodent. so is not quite the same as "sufficiently determined mouse"
Of course, I just meant that sometimes even woefully outclassed prey species will often "throw down" and fight rather than panic.
Rabbits have been known to kill house cats, so trained giant hare mounts standing their ground wouldn't break my suspension of disbelief.

Not that it makes that any better as a trait for mounts...

Actully it a draw back as a mount. The Pellets work normally because the Rabbit around the same area when ready the second stage.

The fine while stabled, but when on the move...

It might best to have a feed supplemental the for fills the need for second stage.

Horse digestion is horribly inefficient, and require a large amount of time not working. I don't think hares' double dipping would take that much more time.

It's not the time... it having the pellet there when it's time to eat it. not miles down the trail where it dropped. "Drop bag" would have an issue of collecting Both types which then means sorting...

Rabbits poop out pellets, the type of poo they eat again, at the same time every day. So not super complicated to keep a pellet catcher on hand and empty after the daily deposit.

You could breed for it to always happen in the evening, for instance.

If such a thing were easy, imagine all the happy dog owners. Or how happy I would be to know a time to clean the litter box. Really, they eat the same thing every day. Why do they seem to make small deposits some hours, but create a perfect "poo" storm at random intervals?
