Create Elemental contest, resistance roll?

Hi guys! In Magic page 28 for the Create Elemental spell, there is an hourly contest between the caster and the elemental to see if it escapes control.

Now that LOOKS like a resistance roll since it's, you know, to resist control.

But it's not spelled out explicitly like the (other) resistance rolls.

It matters because if it's not a resistance roll, it's not limited by the Rule of 16 and a really high skill could keep an elemental (or many) for days potentially.

Related question: Can you keep control while sleeping? It's not a maintained spell but it's not a simple duration either. Do you need to be conscious to make the hourly contests?
