As far as the tone of the product goes, you nailed it with DFRPG. At every session with my adult group, I introduce a few new rules that either apply to the beginning of the upcoming session or that clarify situations that we encountered in the previous session. I usually read the text aloud because it is crystal clear, flavorful, and funny. Last time we had a running gag about "killer bunnies and man-eating shrubs" anytime anyone attempted a foraging roll (Exploits, p. 18).
I feel like this exactly. I bought a copy of DFRPG for my nephews 12th birthday and I’m shipping it to him Monday.

I personally have one Saturday a month of free time with how busy semiconductor manufacturing is this year. That translates into buying a game i love for friends and relations, and wishing i had more time to *play* it.

I as for the subject somewhat at hand; i left dnd for GURPS to get away from Fantasy. Old West was one of my first, and ended up with much of the 3e line except Fantasy. I bought every historical book as soon as it was released after 1992, and ran genre-jumping games all through the years. I passed on 4e fantasy as well, until using some MERP modules in our Infinite Worlds campaign. I passed on DF GURPS from its inception, the simple rule set sounded nifty but i never tried or bought it.

When DFRPG kicked off, i wasn’t excited about it as much as i was about it being an intro to GURPS. It was a crazy good deal to back the KickStarter since i didn’t have any of the line yet. And I’ll tell you what, i have been so happy with my DFRPG. The books are fun to read, and I have played it with completely new table top gamers. I am liking DFRPG for itself and not as an intro to GURPS necessarily, enough so that i bought 3 hard copies of Ballistic-Doug’s Hall of Judgement to gift to the aforementioned young relatives .

So keep up the good work and positivity, Kromm. I’m curious to see what we get post-Pyramid and am hopeful for the future. It’ll be easy to upgrade them from DFRPG to DF GURPS, and then i start teaching them the power of adventure creation and adapting things to DFRPG. If they start with their imaginations, it won’t matter so much that shiny things aren’t added every month and they'll find ways to incorporate what *is* out there!

Reading that SJGames is having a tough time makes me sad. I hope everything is ok :( I would hate to lose my favorite gaming company. I guess I need to help and buy more stuff when I can afford it. I live on disability so I have limited funds but I also have very little bills so I can afford to get new stuff every month. Not a ton, but enough to keep me geeking. I have vowed to buy a physical copy of everything available for DFRPG and so far I have it all. I am waiting for The hall of judgment to hit print so I can buy a copy of that as well. I love the game and the game it's derived from. I don't want then to dissapear :(

Note: if you are not in the USA, *get it now* while it's on pre-order. Shipping from US to "not the US" will be vastly more expensive once it's stateside. Currently, it's $6 if you're in the UK, $9, in the EU, and $12 to "rest of world."

Does that include Canada; as in, will it cost more to get it here later? Due to exchange and duty, I'll likely just print it myself but I'm curious.

Yes, that includes Canada, which falls into the $12 "rest of world" section, unfortunately.

The paper being used is 140gsm (about 93#) silk matte paper stock; it's quite stout.

Well, best of luck to you Kromm. From your posts, you've definitely had a lot to contend with, and I hope that everything works out.

Thanks for the kind words, all! I certainly wasn't fishing for compliments, but I'm not averse to accepting them just the same. :)

I have a sneaking suspicion it'll cost more than $12 to get to Canada from inside the US later.

Probably double. I see rates from $16 (not bad, really) to $40 (ya gotta be kiddin' me, right?)

(And I just saw the announcement on the TFT KS that a company called "Snakes and Lattes" is helping with distribution within Canada; I'm printing out their stuff now and will reach out. If there's a way I can, in the future, get the right kind of printed books to CA from within the USA that would be amazing and cool).

Distribution seem to be an issue these days. I was not quick enough to get a copy of DFRPG from my local store (now they state that the product is out of stock, and that they dont know if and when they will get new copies!). Checked warehouse23, which asked for $62 to ship a $60 product to Sweden... not acceptable. Finally managed to order the product from Denmark. I am puzzled why it is not possible to 1) get a new product and 2) why the shipping rate is so... atrocious.

HoJ had very reasonable shipping to Sweden, OTH.

DFRPG is not new. In fact, we've been warned that it's approaching the point where it'll be out of print with no plans for a reprint.

DFRPG shipped to Europe at a fairly reasonable rate. The difference in shipping rates for DFRPG is down to the difference between shipping one box from the US to Sweden and shipping an entire pallet to a distribution center somewhere in Europe. HoJ is being printed and shipped from the UK, which makes a big difference.
