Re: Powered by GURPS... Dungeon Fantasy?
I would just like to commend you on the bestiary in your sig; are the other volumes of your project available anywhere?

Re: Powered by GURPS... Dungeon Fantasy?
Thanks! I stopped working on them back in '09 but I have recently (in the last month) re-started the project. In addition, I'm eventually going to build a whole new Natural Encyclopedia without the old 3E entries, though I'll keep the current version around for posterity. (I became dissatisfied with the old 3E bestiaries because they tended toward the silly, the humorous, the amusing or the on-the-nose metaphorical. I converted nearly everything there was but ended up not wanting to use any of them myself.)

Re: Powered by GURPS... Dungeon Fantasy?
Ahhh what a cruel jest... I'd love a DF starter set combinig a tailored GURPS Lite, DF 1, 2, part of 3 (multiclassing) and part of 11 (professional P-U for the base professions).
Where to draw the line is always difficult. A case can also be made for part of 13 (load-out for the bases professions). And a bestiary. And an adventure... ...back to reality now... |

If there was a kickstarter for that, I'd be in on it in a heartbeat.

I'd say that if anything, the racial templates are more useful than the character templates and class-mixing lenses. You don't need the focused example templates in DF1 if you have the allowed advantages/disadvantages/skills list from the next section and the powers sets and spell rulings/modifications from the one after that.

There has to be good reasons to get the full versions, but this has to get folks up and playing fast. There would be an adventure in it. It could be Mirror of the Fire Demon or another one. The focus should be on going to the dungeon, getting into it, finding monsters in it, killing them, taking their stuff, avoiding the traps, getting back, and selling the loot—the basic stuff of Dungeon Fantasy, with a bit more of the wilderness. It needs to show off GURPS, including its versatility, AND get everyone playing fast. |
