Default Fanfaronade - [Bites]

Greetings! My name is Keith and I am the game owner of Munchkin Bites and Pants Macabre.

We are wondering the particulars of a card called "Fanfaronade".

It is a power card of rank 1 which reads: "If you are in combat against a single monster and cannot win, roll a die. On a result of 5 or 6, the monster is intimidated. It gives you a face-down treasure and flees. Discard the monster. This is not a kill."

We are curious to know if this means this card essentially gives you two chances to escape, one with treasure, one without.

The way I see this card being used is:
(1) Player with Fanfaronade encounters a single monster of greater level and bonus than the player with Fanfaronade can beat
(2) Player with Fanfaronade who cannot beat the monster they are facing, doesn't ask for help/is refused help
(3) Player with Fanfaronade then rolls to see if they intimidate the monster for a treasure
(4) Failing that, player with Fanfaronade then rolls again to escape

Would this be a correct interpretation?

Heck, I'll give this a shot, I would have to say no. The card does not say "if you fail, roll again to try to escape". It's more of escape reward card.

I'm going to disagree with Pat on this one. You can try to intimidate the monster out of the fight (and out of a treasure), but if that fails, you then can try to Run Away.

Mr. Munchkin Czar, the card says "... On a result of 5 or 6, the monster is intimidated. It gives you a face-down treasure and flees. ..." So I respectfully request that you explain why Intimidating the monster would also forfeit the treasure.

Pat, I would think that since Fanfaronade is of Power Rank 1, that it essentially allows the option of trying to intimidate the monster before you try to escape. I think that if this card was intended to replace normal escape it would say something to the effect of "If you are in combat against a single monster and cannot win, you may attempt to intimidate the monster instead of attempting escape..."

Thank you both for your time and input!

Keith

Because if the monster gives you 2 or more Treasures, you only get one.

That wasn't what I said. I said you would scare the monster out of the fight AND out of a treasure, meaning it would leave one treasure behind for you to take.

Please, Andrew, don't wait to correct me! I reread the card and have to agree with you, it's a bonus escape card! I've played so many times and missed that.

Does this also mean that if you fail your power roll and the monster doesn't get scared away you may now continue your turn and try to find help etc? Or is this done and then if you fail you must immediately roll to try to escape?

It would seem you could continue attempting to win afterwards. The card text quoted above seems to have the same timing as asking for help, so it doesn't force you into Running Away if you use it.
