Default Gurps Alter III Gunner vs Guns

In the optional rules about guns in Gurps Alterante Gurps III the gun skillīs are reduced from xxx to 3. So here is a question....

Gunner is Dx/A skill in GURPS while Guns are Dx/E. When I asked about this wayback when 8-9 years ago one of the primary explanations was that Gunner covers more skills. From mounted mg42 mg to .50 cal guns on a P-51, 20 mm autocannon on a tank or 37mm gatling gun on the A-10, even hand cranked gatlings in the 1860īs.

Now with the altarnated rules for guns would it be unjust to raise Guns Long arm and pistol to Dx/A?

What does the community think about that? Fits the rules or breaks the game?

Matters very little either way. Amounts to a -1 to skill, which is after all the minimum modifier GURPS thinks it is worthwhile to apply a rules effect. If you think it makes more sense as average, sure why not.

Though you might want to bump all the NPCs arbitrarily selected Gun skills down by 1 if you do that, just in case they were carefully balanced.

It doesn't break the game, but it doesn't fit the rules and makes no sense. Guns is an Easy skill because it is quite easy to learn. The whole point of my alternate reduction to three Guns specialities is that most of the specialities are not justified. So it's really not at all the same situation as Gunner, which covers many rather different applications. Gunner is also Average because many of its specialities are not as straight-forward as Guns, which is mainly a hand/eye coordination skill.

Cheers

Gunner is Dexterity-Based Easy skill (p. B198), not Average.

Yes you are right... I may still have been thinking 3e... after almost 10 years of 4e rules I still bring up 3e rules and applications.... I guess 14 years of 2e/3e/3eRevised are hard to erase.
