Loons have it way worse. That's its "walk". It's pretty comparable to some seals. Penguins are better walkers than loons, hard to imagine as that is.

Wow. That is, indeed, about as mobile as a seal. I had no idea until now that the Common Loon is the same bird as the Great Northern Diver, which does sound a lot more interesting.

If someone asked me to imagine a Thanksgiving day turkey covered in feathers escaping, that's what I'd picture.

They're much more adept under water. That video also shows the other reason they're terrible walkers - they've basically got frog legs.

They're so water adapted they can eat under water (and mostly do, unless it's something really big).

Exactly like my imagined escaping turkey. I rest my case... my horribly confused case.

But yeah, one can't really be perfect in multiple environments. Something's almost always got to be sacrificed.
