Scenario: It Came from the Swamp
It Came from the Swamp
By Aaron Morelli 1.0 Introduction An attacking force is sent to strike a weak spot in the enemy line and establish temporary emplacements (Light Artillery Drones). Unbeknownst to the attackers (though knownst to both players), a submerged Mk. II ogre lies in the nearby lake and it moves to join the defense! 2.0 Setup This scenario requires Battlefields as well as OGRE 6th Edition, or OGRE Designer’s Edition. In the case of OGRE 6th Edition, one may select proxies for a single Mk. II OGRE and 9 swamp overlays. 2.1 Map Use map S3. 2.1.1 Overlays Swamp overlays are placed on: 1614, 1615, 1911, 2011, 1916, 2015, 1611, 1711, 1810 2.2 Attackers The attacking force is comprised of 6 AU worth of mobile armor, 4 AU worth of infantry, and 4 hovertrucks carrying LAD pallets. All attackers move on from the southern edge turn 1. Any units entering on the road may be granted the movement bonus. 2.3 Defenders The defending force is comprised of 3 AU worth of mobile armor, 3 AU worth of infantry, and 1 Mk. II ogre. The ogre is deployed in the central east lake in hex 2013. Everything else is deployed in the town cluster to the north which includes hex 1305. 3.0 Game Play 3.1 Attacker Objective The attacker is trying to deploy and defend the four LADs anywhere in the north half of the board. 4.0 End Game The game ends when either the attacking or defending force is eliminated. 4.1 Victory Conditions 3-4 LADs remain – Decisive Attacker Victory 1-2 LADs remain – Attacker Victory 0 LADs remain– Defense Victory 0 LADs remain, and the ogre is mobile – Decisive Defense Victory 5.0 Notes The attacker needs to get their hovertrucks north to deploy the LADs. But at D1, the hovertrucks are likely to be destroyed by even one attack from a defender (scant few they are). The attacking armor needs to clear them out, but the towns might make that tough! The emerging ogre is expected to make it west of the lake by turn 4 or 5. At that point, the “attackers” are likely to feel as if they’re suddenly on the defense trying to stop the ogre from reaching their artillery which is hopefully becoming operable. 6.0 Playtest Notes I iterated on the scenario parameters a few times before arriving at the above. I've run the scenario as it appears here several times selecting for the defense 1xHVY 2xLT 1xMSL and for the attack 4xHVY 2xGEV. They were all close games. Particularly untested are specialist infantry (esp Marines), and GEV-PCs. I assume there are bugs to find, still. Last edited by whatheck; 01-16-2024 at 10:14 AM. |
