Default my new campaign

Although I have years of experience with other systems I'm new to In Nomine. We did a chargen session about a month ago and I'll be GMing the first session of the campaign this Saturday. I decided the PCs would be a "troubleshooter squad" of Soldiers of God that works for a Mercurian of War. She sends them off on missions while she does other stuff. I was hoping I might call upon the forum for questions and help.

For one adventure I have planned she will loan them special artifacts that allow humans to bodily enter the Ethereal Realm. They will go to Asgard, Olympus and the Land of Fairy. I have the Ethereal Players Guide. If anyone is willing, I'd like to see anyone's take on these Domains using the design system in EPG.

I'm not ignoring you - I just managed to burn through my entire blog post stockpile while adapting to a new work schedule and needed to build up a new strategic reserve.

I don't have a ready answer that I can just stat out for you on the spur of the moment, but I have actually given this question some thought before and will try to respond before too much time has gone by.

I haven't started my Domain Practicum (TM) yet, but I have the following template I intend to use.

TYPE – (Dreamscape/micro-domain/domain) Each on has 1 quirk and 0-3 positive and/or negative features. The farther into the Marches, the more of each exist.
POSITIVE FEATURES – See EPG p106-108.
NEGATIVE FEATURES – See EPG p108-109.
MIXED FEATURES – See EPG p109-111.

Okay, a few quick thoughts:

Asgard
  • Aspected: Tribe
  • Common Tongue
  • Doomed
  • Dream Magnet
  • Multi-Locational (8 worlds) OR Dream Caul (Yggdrasil)
  • Regenerates

Olympus
  • Aspected: Family OR Palaces
  • Common Tongue
  • Dream Magnet
  • Serendipitous
  • Sticky

Faerie
  • Aspected: Twilight
  • Common Tongue
  • Hostile: Tithe to Hell (might be accomplished with "Intrusive" instead)
  • Incomplete Mastery
  • Infinite
  • Malleable

Thanks for the write-ups.

So, why did you decide to make Olympus Sticky?

Because mythological figures that appear in Greece and another region are almost always associated with Greece (e.g. the Lamia & Sphinx), even if they are explicitly listed in Herodotus as coming from another country (e.g. the Phoenix).

I play loose with rules--being PbP many times I don't even stat an NPC nevermind realm until the characters actually poke it. That said...

I rely on The Marches rather than EPG for ethereal things. Don't remember who pointed me that way but it was a good call. The whole Revelations cycle brings ethereal politics into relief, but The Marches focuses on them.

Not sure why they'd want to enter bodily into the ethereal realms. Seems to me that's opening them up to physical attacks without giving them any real advantage. One of the things my mortal NPCs like to lord over their angelic handlers is that in a pinch they can pinch themselves awake, go shake their companions awake and thus make a clean escape. Now said NPCs could be wrong about that...

I know you specified EPG but I wanted to drop my two cents in.

The idea is that some artifacts were taken to the Ethereal Realm and they must retrieve them from the aforementioned places.

I had a friend who ran a game with a lot of Norse Ethereals. Odin intervened on rolls of 3/3/3 when his followers were involved.

I'm not sure what you could use for Zeus.

As for Faerie, 2s, 3s, 4s, and 7s, are all important for fairy tales, so you might want Oberon, Titania, or Mab to intervene on rolls of 2/2/3 (at least within the realm of Faerie itself).

I have Revelations 2 and have looked at the Sorcery rules there. It seems like I heard there are different sorcery rules in another book. Which book and what are they like?

When you have used sorcerers in your game did you give them Songs as well as sorcery skills or just sorcery?
