Default Breaking down the door to a character class you already have

My family and I just got the game and are having a blast. Last night I wasn't sure what to do for a situation where I was already a male Elf. I broke down the door and drew a female Elf card. I wasn't sure if I can "equip it" in my backpack to use/trade later (if that's even possible) or if I simply discard it since I am already an elf.

Does anyone know the ruling on that?

The only cards that can be played on the table without actually using them are Items -- cards with a Gold Piece value on them. (Remember that the phrase "No Value" is the same as zero Gold Pieces.) If you kick down the door and receive a Class or Race that you don't want to play, it goes into your hand.

BTW, we discourage the use of the term "backpack" on the forums because there several cards whose names include "Backpack," and it can cause confusion.
