Default Rules Clarification - Combat, Multiple Monsters, and Modifiers

Hi Munchkins,
I would need clarification of rules of combat, please.

The Rules state
- " To fight a monster, compare its combat strength to yours.
Combat strength is the total of Level plus all modifiers
– positive or negative – given by Items and other cards " -

When fighting Multiple Monsters the Rules state - " You must defeat their combined combat
strengths. " -

The way I would approach this is , count each Monster's Combat Strength (Level +Modifiers) and then combine them.

To calculate the Combat Strength this way , when playing Usable Once only cards to enhance the Monster's side , I would need to assign that Item to one Monster on the Monster's side and count it as a Modifier. as it states that Modifiers are "..Items and other cards..".

This would make sense when playing card like "Mate" for the Monsters and "Doppelganger" for the Munchkins.

May I ask if combat should always be like this?
Are Items such as "+x to either side" treated differently than other items?
When playing these Items , should we Combine the Level of the monsters first , and then add the bouns? or should we still calculate each monster's Combat Strength , and then combine it, like it states in the Rules?

Mate duplicates the monster, including any modifiers found on the monster card itself, and including any monster enhancers played on that specific monster (because that's what Mate says it does). One-shot bonuses are played to help the monster side, not a specific monster, and would not be duplicated by Mate. (Mate used to duplicate all bonuses, including one-shots, and trying to figure out which one-shot was played on which monster in a complex combat turned out to be more bookkeeping than fun.)

Doppleganger does duplicate one-shots played to help the munchkin. Because it may only be used when the munchkin is fighting alone, there's no bookkeeping confusion.

Thanks for writing in.

So would the marvel card "Replicated" work that same way it sates "another monster appears of the same level with all the same enhancers"?

So would the monster also receive the one shots bonuses as well ?

Replicated works exactly the same way as Mate (because they cloned the text). It does not duplicate one-shots.

That's good information to have. In the context of those cards, what constitutes an "enhancer", is that then solely the province of stuff like "Giant"?

Monster enhancers say "+/-N to Monster" in big type on them. Other types of cards are not monster enhancers.
