Rules aside, what would be the "theme" of the campaign? And what pc do you have in mind?

Been giving that some thought. The obvious theme for the PCs, or at least their sponsor, would be "taking back what was ours" -- trying to push back the Venetian takeover of the Genoese and Byzantine trade and colonies. The counter-theme may be "It was never yours" -- this being represented by the older folklore/Greek mythological stuff that was suppressed by the Byzantines coming back in the dark corners.

PCs -- I'm thinking a small armed merchant ship -- so some combat types, some face/merchant types, room for some odd specialists
