Default Helper Help or not?

I recently played a game of Munchkin Apocalypse and there was a lvl 1 monster, that says you cannot defeat it without a helper.

If I remember the rules correctly, you can't accept help from a helper unless you're already losing to the monster. So would you be able to accept help because the monster can't be defeated alone, or would you have to make the monster more powerful than you, so that you're losing, before you get help?

Sorry, I can't remember the name of the monster. I think it was a plant of sorts.

Cards trump rules. That card says you cannot win without getting help; therefore, until you get help, you are losing and can ask for help.
