The real question is what disadvantage does a cyclops have that keeps him from realizing that yelling "NoWun has stabbed me!" is likely to create the wrong impression.

IQ 7-8 would be sufficient.

That argues for pretty impressive BL, since there were a dozen men in the cave.

If you ignore the square/cube law, which is generally the right thing to do for giants, even SM+3 is considerably stronger than a dozen men.

Yeah I tend to increase Strength a lot for larger size modifiers and I'll allow players to buy a DR for natural toughness for each level of SM. If you're you're attacking a humanoid bigger than SM+2 (15 ft) at my table the default hit location is legs rather than body. And that reach. If you find a humanoid bigger than SM+3 I hope you dodge really good.

If you ignore the square/cube law, strength of giants (assuming human is ST and they're at the top end of their SM just like humans are):
  • SM +1: ST 18
  • SM +2: ST 32
  • SM +3: ST 56
  • SM +4: ST 100
  • SM +5: ST 180
  • SM +6: ST 320
  • SM +7: ST 560
  • SM +8: ST 1000
  • SM +9: ST 1800
  • SM +10: ST 3200
  • SM +11: ST 5600
  • SM +12: ST 10000
DR typically around 10% of hit points. This makes the SM+11 kaiju in Godzilla vs Kong a lot more credible against modern weaponry, though even then you probably want to add hardening or something.

If I ignore the square-cube law, I'm going to assume that BL is proportional to body mass. SM +1 gives height 3 yards rather than 2 yards, which implies 3.375x volume and mass. So BL is going to be 20 lbs. x 3.375, or 67.5 lbs. Now, 67.5 x 5 = 337.5, and the square root of that is closer to 18 than 19, which seems to be what you get. So I think I agree with your method.

Going from memory here, I believe Polyphemus also blindly hurls a boulder at the departing ship. Of course we don't know the size of the boulder, but we should assume it was big enough to threaten. If he uses the usual throwing rules, a 50 yard throw would suggest an ST in the 50s, so with the above SM 3 seems plausible. I guess I'm leaning towards smaller. He has to fit into a cave on a beach, after all, and there have to be similar sized caves for his buddies.
