Default Limitation: "Quick, disable the ATR before you lose contact with reality!"

Greetings, all!

Any ideas how to price/build a case of Maximum Duration where instead of a 5-minute cooldown, there is a nasty effect (similar to a Backlash) that occurs if the user doesn't switch the ability before the duration is up (which usually involves one or more Ready/Concentrate)?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. The title comes from a somewhat altered quote in the translation of Jericho (probably incorrect).

What you could do is give a Susceptibility to your own powers when they've been used longer than a certain period.

As far as pricing is concerned, this would be worth *maybe* -5% more than the regular cost for Max Duration, because the consequences would be so easily avoidable. The thing itself is obviously some sort of Nuisance Effect; perhaps priced as usual using the guidelines in powers, and then divided by 5 or 10 to represent the trivial avoidance of such a limitation. That would make the limitation 1 or 2 percent most of the time.

I'd probably just treat it as:
  • Maximum Duration
  • No Maximum Duration (Backlash)

So you can keep on using it, but the Backlash will happen.

The ‘shutdown and five minute wait before reactivation’ is itself a kind of built-in NE. Depending on just how severe the Backlash is, it may not be worth any additional discount.
