Default Re: Single Round Spells in Ritual Path Magic Systems

Here's a thought: Borrow from Call of Cthulhu. Use a set list of rituals like regular Magery, divorced from the path/book system. Some are actual rituals, some are cast in one round.

Here's an example:

Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao
Thaumaturgy -1
One second
Requires verbal component
When this spell is cast, every spirit, demon, ghost, or monster within 20 yards of the caster must roll Will with a penalty of the caster's margin of success or quickly leave. They may not return for one hour.

Best used in a martial arts campaign...

Something like that should work fine. You don't even need a list of the rituals that take more than a round - you can use the regular system for that. You just need a list of rituals that characters can learn to cast in a round.

You could even just introduce a rule saying that if a spell is under a certain cost (perhaps relative to your magery) it can be cast in one round.
