Technically, Space Opera's "Star Torps" travel exactly at the speed of light. They are also only self-guiding at 300 light-seconds or less. You can guide them from the firing ships up to 2100 LS though. Because of the bonus to hit ship guided was the normal mode of operation.

So with collapsium armor, no one shot kills of any capital ship with any weapon, massive batteries of multiple weapons, the use of StarFighters and pretty much everything else Space opera resembles Star Trek about as little as possible.

That's because everybody in 1980, or at least all the fanboys, were into Star Wars. Clearly some of these things are messy compromises between Star Wars and Star Trek.

Well, 300LS/turn is also considered by the game as being just under lightspeed. Of course the starship books then cheerfully have high TL small vessels doing more than 300LS anyway.

Not at all. Those are hardly the only sources of inspiration for Space Opera. There's a good chunk of Harry Harrison's Death World novel in there, for example, along with all those other space operas and planetary romances that had 'hell worlds' of various types. The gauss weapons are reminiscent of those from Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat series. There are some things from Keith Laumer's works. The powered armour is, aside from having force fields, right out of Heinlein's Starship Troopers. There is a sort of mention of Trek's phasers as energy disruptors, but they're just one of many weapon types.

Also, there's no compromise at all. Stuff was just put in there, from whatever sources seemed cool. Making it all fit, if you used it in your game, was clearly seen as your job.
