Default Canceling a Curse! for Fairy Dust purposes

My son was Cursed! while riding the Mutant Gerbil Steed (roll a 5 or 6 to dodge a Curse!) and failed his roll. I played a Reloaded Die to make it a 6. May I please have a Fairy Dust card?

No. Because the roll was a 6, the Curse was never cast in the first place.

Hmm, I'll have to re-read the card when I get home, but I'm pretty sure it says some curses and traps miss you because you're riding so low to the ground. Can something miss if it hasn't been cast? This isn't the same mechanic as a Wishing Ring with the added possibility of failure? (Or is wording "cancels the effects of" vs. "miss" the important thing here?)

Edit: Also, not sure if it makes a difference, but the Curse! wasn't behind a door. I played it in order to try to cancel it. If it was never cast in the first place, may I have it back? (assuming the Mutant Gerbil Steed doesn't say to discard it.)

I should have read the card myself. Let's leave it until we can both do that. :-)

Sweet, thanks. I'm just really bored at work right now. Should have posted last night when it happened. I will wait until I'm home to ask my next question, but it'll be easier since I actually state the argument against myself in it.

The Steed says you can disregard the Curse or Trap. There's a part of me that says this is not canceling the Curse (which is what would grant the FD card), just providing Curse avoidance, but I could just being pedantic at the moment.

Just to throw in my probably un needed 2 cents. Isn't what Bampop is saying in the spirit of the Sparkly Good Fairy? If she didn't play His/Her Reloaded Die, the Curse would have hit him. So surely, helping her son is "Cancelling" the curse by preventing it from hitting the other player. Which is what the Sparkly Good Fairy wants. Right?

If the beard in my avatar doesn't give it away, I'm a male. Not important, but kind of important to me. :-)
