Jurassic Park Compsognathus is even a poison-spitter :) (yes, only slightly less fictional than a medieval cockatrice - but still useful for fantasy).

Is there a spitting Compsognathus in the movie? Or are you referring to the Dilophosaurus that spits on Newman (or whatever the character's name is)?

Arg, I got them crossed! Oh the shame, confusing my semificionalized dinosaurs, my 6-year-old badge of pride must be returned!

Yes, the Compsognathus bit the little girl in the beginning of the book and gave her an allergic reaction, the Dilophasaurs poisoned Newman and ate him.

Which, of course, would be a good reason to make the Compsos into spitters in a game. To surprise the players who saw Jurassic Park.

Is that the scene (and the dinos) that appear at the beginning of JP 2?

I haven't seen JP 2, and to be honest my mother fast-forwarded JP1 whenever a dinosaur with pointy teeth showed up. So I can only remember the original book :)
