Monster Base Colors - 2 Player Game
Background: We're in the midst of a multi-day two-player game of MQ, which remains set out on the table as I type this. I'm playing orange, with a Level 1 Dwarven Cleric and my wife is playing red, with a Level 4 No Class Half-Bred (Halfling and Dwarf). Both of us happen to have Magic Shiny's - the Amethyst Bane Ring and the Sapphire Bane Ring.
After we got these cards, at one point we rolled the dice for the monster base and realized we only have red and orange standies, which meant that we can never use these rings if we only have two colors. Question: Should we add in the other color standies to a two player game? We were using the version 1 rules from the box, so I checked today for an update and according to the rules (v1.1) on page 7, it states "This means that the maximum number of monsters in any game is 3 times the number of players." The RAW seem pretty clear to me, we should only use the standie colors that we have (in this case red and orange). The Amethyst Bane Ring and the Sapphire Bane Ring are usless to us, other than selling it for the 300 gp. But figured I'd ask for clarification anyway in case I missed something. Thanks! |

No. Follow the rules as written.

You can also just pull those cards out if you prefer.
