ST-Based Innate Attack
Hey ppl,
Doest an attack being Melee: ST-Based qualifies it for Weapon Master? I don't see that as possible due to game-balance settings... But anyway, I'd like to hear your opinions and if it is ok with the rule....

Re: ST-Based Innate Attack
A Striker is arguably a special case of an ST-based Melee Innate Attack, and it gets skill-based damage bonuses (from Brawling and Karate). I'd say more general cases should work as well. After all, the player spent those points on WM for use with is IA... shouldn't he get the full benefit?

Re: ST-Based Innate Attack
I don't believe this has been definitively ruled on yet. The way I see it, the answer should be a qualified yes. Let me explain:
When you use a weapon (and for this entire post, read "weapon" as "an appropriate weapon for the form of Weapon Master that you have"), it doesn't change your dice of damage for the purpose of WM. If your swing damage is 2d+X (where X can be positive or negative), then no matter what weapon you wield, it'll be doing 2d+Y damage. If it's a Very Fine Two-Handed Axe, Y might be pretty darn high, but it's still 2d+Y. So Weapon Master would add +4 damage, if your skill was at least DX+2. (And remember that the optional rule about turning Adds to Dice happens after calculating all bonuses, including the Weapon Master bonus, so it doesn't alter the above.) So what's that mean? It means that (for the most part), Weapon Master is based on your basic damage. And yes, there are a few weapons that break this logic -- chainsaw and some ultra-tech ones -- but hopefully you see my point: that it is balanced to allow Weapon Master to apply its bonus to your basic damage. Because of that, if someone had a ST-Based Innate Attack defined as a weapon, I would allow WM to add a bonus based on the person's basic damage. I would not extend that bonus into the IA's dice of damage -- if you want a more damaging IA, buy one. But it is definitely not unbalanced to apply it to the ST damage itself.
