Gamemaster's Guidepost: Frakking Unusual Backgrounds, how do they work?!

How do you price a Unusual Background? Are there other things you can do with it? What about when a player wants to be the odd man out in a campaign? How does that work? Read and find out!

Triple Threat: Mountain Oni

Oni can mean many things, mostly they're depicted as some sort of Japanese faerie, goblin, demon, or combination of all of the above. The mountain oni is the one most often seen in wood-block, artistic renditions of oni, and so on. Without further ado, the giant club wielding oni...

Session Recap: The Awakening - The Night-Dimmed Day, Part II, Game Session 7

Had a absolute blast with today's marathon session, in addition to a very productive game I used a new prototype play aid for GMs and players alike. It was a smash success. The session itself finally tied up the middle portion of my current campaign's story arc and moves them into the final act. Will the Dead Men be able to save Chicago with the help of notorious criminal Same MacHeath and his yakuza thugs? Or will Chi-Town finally fall off the map?

Gamemaster's Guidepost: Practical (Ritual Path) Magic

Why can't I blow up the world with ritual path magic, the book says I can? What do you mean I can't use I can't use this system to recreate Utter Dome?! That was the best spell evar!

Ritual Path Magic can do a lot of things. In fact...it's pretty much unlimited in most areas, but just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. In the latest installment of Gamemaster's Guidepost I discuss some of the more common and outlandish gripes I've seen about the system so far.

GURPS 101: Remedial Ritual Path Magic Part I

Trying to create a particular type of ritual path magic caster but you're not sure where to start? Maybe you're just looking for some quick notes? From the Necromancer to the Master of Elements, I've got all your basic ritual path magic needs covered.

Nice, some great tips here! I'd love to see some of these written up as lenses (complete with a few example rituals, either from the existing RPM's chapter of samples or written fresh). In fact... has anyone written lenses to turn DF Wizards and other "standard" casters into RPM casters?

(Looks like your link is off though, pointing to your last blog post instead of the current one.)

I've seen a few threads elsewhere.

Now it doesn't go anywhere.

Over all a nice summation of what has been discussed on the forums. One small addition that we are planning on using in our campaigns is that we are changing the guideline slightly for the dividing line between greater and lesser effects is if your character has access to ability via a power talent at the correct level this ritual will be a lesser effect for you as long as you mimic the power Essentially if a Pyromancer can within the campaign has the correct Power Talent level to purchase 5d6 attacks or transform into fire elementals to replicate it as a Ritual is a lesser effect even if he has not purchased that individual power yet.

Secondly and this one is a bit more vague If you have a racial template transforming into other racial templates of a similar category shall be considered a lesser effect . Essentially its a case of as a GM if a player is already a werewolf I don't much mind if he wants to essentially swap out his racial template for werebunny instead, nor do I mind if Lycanthropes RPM casters become the go to guys for rituals that transform people into animals or lycanthropes.

What that werewolf could not do however is turn a person into vampire as a lesser effect...the local vampire witch however finds it to be a relatively easy ritual to perform however. While both of them would want to talk to a Tiefling if they wanted to be transformed into a Demon.
