Just cyanide. A Perk. I think there are some people that are immune to the stuff just like some people don't react to poison ivy. Much rarer and you are much less likely to find out that you are and it's more definitive if you aren't.

The only way to be immune to cyanide is to lack a fundamental part of mitochondria.
Millipedes that produce hydrogen cyanide as a defense mechanism lack it. But that does make their energy production less efficient. Poison ivy is about an allergy. Those of us without the allergy don't react to the irritating compound.

Which, to be fair, is a perfectly reasonable possibility in a campaign featuring aliens, to say nothing of materialized spirits and other such fantastic esoterica.
