Default Mug the shopkeeper

If I sell an item for 600 gold pieces and another item for 400 gold pieces
and someone plays mug the shopkeeper and steals the 600 gold pieces card, do they still get the level for selling 1000 gold?

Or it is stolen so they are still missing 600 gold pieces needed to level up?

I ask because it seems like you would rarely want to mug the shopkeeper because no one will sell something really good, but if you steal the item and they dont get to level, then thats a really munchkinly play!

I've found that people will OFTEN sell something good that isn't good for THEM just then. Like Class or Race restricted items that don't match their current Class/Race, or extra Hand items that are good, but that they just don't have room to use.

so this will not subtract the cost that is required for them to level?
People I play with usually dont sell anything that they think they can get trade value from, but thanks for your reply.

Sorry, just realized I didn't explicitly answer your question.

This card does NOT stop the other person from getting their level.

After all, you're mugging the SHOPKEEPER, not the other Munchkin. They've already completed their transaction. ;-)

(We're the opposite in my usual play group-family mostly. We almost never trade items to other people, and are FAR more likely to sell extras for levels.)

Thanks for your reply, I guess different players have different play styles.
