That would be true if the arguments sprang from what Hume calls "the academical, or skeptical philosophy." But in general they don't; many of the philosophies in this discussion do point toward courses of action in the real world. It's more that the particular courses of action being discussed here are almost purely hypothetical, and so not enough people in the real world have formed preferences regarding them to constitute a significant ideological force.
