I feel like the mercury is the more expensive component there... but that started me thinking about what might have sulfur in it, and gunpowder is an option. Low Tech puts gunpowder at $10 a pound if you haven't corned it. Possibly that's still too much. High Tech has gunpowder at $5 a pound. That at least gives me a ball park area to play around in.

Thanks, you started me down a productive path!

May 22 etr

Description: 4 yard by 4 yard room with a large gong in the center.

Monster: The Musical Greeter. The Musical greeter is much like the other two (See May 4). She will not leave the room, but will loudly call for help. If the PC's are escorted, she will remain motionless unless the gong is mystically rung, in which case she will call out that fact.

Entrances: A strong ironbound door (DR 15 HP 39) with a heavy lock ( DR 9, HP 18, pick at -5).

Treasure: The Greeter's skull, see May 4. The Gong its self is 20 lbs and $2,000. It has an enchantment causing it to ring when other gongs are rung. This enchantment is theoretically worth $2,000, but only applies if you can sell the Gong with other keyed Gongs.

May 23 etr

Description:
A series of empty 4 yard by 4 yard rooms. Each appears to be empty except for a single chest.

Entrances:
Each cell has a strong ironbound door (DR 15 HP 39) with a heavy lock ( DR 9, HP 18, pick at -5). They all lead to May 18.

Treasure: Each chest is ($200 and 40 lbs).

One of the chests contains 14 key rings keys. Each ring has
  • a key with a 2 Caret gem of Jet ($120) protruding from the end (total value $1680). This key opens the door leading out of Mar 1
  • Each of the four keys needed to get through the golems in Jan 17
  • Two unique keys: each goes to a room its chest in this section
  • A key to J23
  • A key to the doors in J24
This chest also contains a silver Rat Amulet worth $100 and four bronze rat amulets worth $20 each, a silvered pitcher ($20, 3lbs), and a key to the chest in J30.
Note: I'm going to need to go back and add matching keyrings to The Dark Clerk, Faceless Fool, Pallis Deadeye, and Hanry Deathborne.

The "Undead Hall" is almost done at this point! time to get working on that map! Its been a while since I've done a level, so I'm happy to be getting close!

Entrances: A stone arch at each end of the path.

Vision: -10 (no light)

Mud: Bad footing, and costs all movement to move one hex. The Mud may damage gear not kept out of it, and will cling to the adventurer and add 10 lbs of encumbrance until scraped off and 1 lb of encumbrance until clothes and armor are properly cleaned.

Recesses: Each of the recesses contains something
  • One contains the glass fragments of some sort of Bomb Trap
  • One contains a Dwarven Manual on Alchemy ($350, 12 lbs)

May 25 etr

Description: A 6 yard by 10 yard room covered in black lichen that glows blue. A pair of Iron Railings, also covered in lichen, 7 feet tall, 20 feet long, and 3 feet apart, are in the center of the room.

A successful Naturalist, Thaumatology, or Prospecting roll will identify the lichen as harmless, but evidence of lots and lots of mind-effecting magic cast in the room. A successful carpentry roll at +5 or IQ roll will identify the iron railings as a device for using a two man saw (usually to make a tree into square lumber)

Vision: -5 (lichen light)

Entrances: Three average Ironbound Doors (DR 10, HP 34), facing at the two ends and one long side.

May 26 etr

Description: A 4 yard by 4 yard room. A chest is in one corner, its key held by Hanry Deathborne. A writing desk and chair and a stack of writing materials occupy the other corner.

Entrances:
a strong ironbound door (DR 15 HP 39) with a heavy lock ( DR 9, HP 18, pick at -5). The Key is held by Hanry Deathborne.

Treasure: Table with gold leaf scarabs on the corners ($360, 18 lbs), Padded Chair with leather covers tattooed with a skull. ($540, 18 lbs). Scribe's kit ($50, 2 lbs). The Lock on the Chest Matches the door. Inside the Chest is a ring of keys similar to the ones in May 23, minus the key to room and chest, 280 sheets of paper ($280, 14 lbs), and 320 pages of tightly written, morbid and flowery poetry reflecting on the glory of undeath, the length of eternity, and an unfulfilled longing to kill mortals. Its all signed Hanry Deathborne.

May 30 etr

Description: A 7 yard by 4 yard chamber, running north-south. The walls are lined with barrels and clay pots. half of the barrels have been punctured in some way. Four Dwarven skeletons lie dead on the floor, amid crudely and hastily carved runes.

Runes: The runes are in dwarven. They read "You rule only the living, We are dead, the mechanical shall conquer you." They seem to have been carved with a knife.

Skeletons: These skeletons cannot be animated, resurrected or similar. They seem to have been looted, and their clothing is in very bad shape, but an appropriate roll (heraldry is the main one) will reveal they are from the dwarven order of the gear, an ancient (500 years minimum) military order that employed mass use of constructs.

Lighting: -10 (none)

Treasure: There are 17 Barrels ($65, 20 lbs) full of organic something that went really bad a really long time ago.

Entrances: Three Average Ironbound doors. The one at the north end has been destroyed. The ones in the south ends of east and west walls are not locked.

May 31 etr

Description: A 15 yard by 11 yard hall, running east-west, with 12 round pillars 1 yard across evenly spaced out in a 4 by 3 grid with 3 yards between each of them. four alcoves 2 yards wide and 5 yards deep branch off to the north and south, two on each side. Some sort of strange dried offal is scattered across the floor, mixed with shattered animal bone. A naturalist roll will identify the offal as belonging to its owners: dire velvet worms.

Entrances: Two destroyed double doors at the east and west ends of the room, and a third destroyed door is at the end of the north east alcove.

Treasure: In the debris are 3 gold coins ($1,200), 27 silver coins ($540), a wizard's wand carved like an octopus ($100, 1 lb), and a sliver-coated mace ($150, 5 lbs), And a one-handed Concertina (DF8 p22, $200, .5 lbs) with the hush enchantment on it ($4,000)

Monster: The Dire Velvet worms are not normally in this room (25% chance of one being present), but are usually out hunting. Dire Velvet Worms will often try to drag a single victim to this room, leaving the rest of the group covered in its slime.

Dire velvet worms are long and have many legs and long antenna. They don't appear segmented like a centipede, and have a thick hide instead of armor. They hunt primarily by spraying their victims with a sticky slime and then picking them off. Yes, this is a giant version of a real bug with a terrifying feeding pattern.

Code:
ST 32 HP 32 speed 6.25
DX 13 Will 13 Move 7
IQ 5 Per 13
HT 12 FP NA SM: +2

Dodge 10 Parry NA DR 4 (7 vs crushing)
Bite (14) 3d6 cut. Any hit initiates a grapple.
Slime Spit (17)- Binding 18. This attack has a range of 15 yards, and is sticky: Touching an effected target will also effect you. The Velvet worm can only attack 15 times in a day before its reservoir is depleted... it will generally flee if it hasn't subdued its prey with those attacks.
Slime Cone (17) - Binding 18 in a 15 yard by 5 yard cone. This uses up five of its slime spit attacks, and otherwise works like slime spit.

Skills: Stealth -15, Innate Attack (slime) -17, Brawling -14, wrestling -16, Tracking -13

Traits: Blind, No eyes, Vibration Sense, Discriminatory Smell, Veriform*, Wild Animal

*the many small legs of the velvet worm result in the same behavior as no legs: its low to the ground and cutting off its legs does little other than hurt it.

June 1 etr

Description: A blunted triangular room, 15 yards deep, 20 yards wide at the base, and 10 yards wide at the tip. 6 rows of simple solid stone benches one yard across are spaced every yard, with the first set flush against the widest wall, and two yard aisles on each side. about 4 yards of space is clear at the front of the blunted Triangle. Old rusty blades, and rusted armor fragments are scattered around the room, as are bits of what look like statues of Golems. Organic matter seems to have scoured from the room.

Monsters: Two Stone Golems with No Legs (The disadvantage) are in this room. They also lack weapons. They will attack anyone they can. They start between the benches, so a reckless PC might pass them without noticing.

Treasure: All the weapons in here are good only for scrap (150 lbs worth). A through search could find up to $416 in copper coins and $520 in silver coins (26 coins).

Lighting: -10 (No light)

Exits: A door at each end of each aisle.
