Shield Specialist in DF
So, i was thinking if there is a job specialized in using shields in DF? I know that we have the knight, but i am talking i a shield fighter like captain America, Eric from D&D and Steven from steven universe.
In other words, a job that uses shield as a primary weapon. |

Re: Shield Specialist in DF
Sounds like it could be made as a "dual-class" Knight/Martial Artist. The Shield skill lets you use the shield offensively to bash folks, and at least one of those examples used a lot of unarmed attacks alongside his shield bashing.
At least, that's how I'd build it up.

Re: Shield Specialist in DF
I believe shields are valid as a Weapon Master choice.
On top of that, allow unusual levels of Enhanced Block... maybe build some new shield power-ups based on techniques... and invent a skill for shield throwing?

Re: Shield Specialist in DF
Thrown Weapon (Shield) should cover that. It might have a default from Sports (Discus).

Re: Shield Specialist in DF
Yeah... I was thinking in 3 possibilities, in all 3 your shield is your primary weapon in the meele packs and you can have one single hand weapon as a off-hand, so your fight stance would be reversed and your skills points will be more on your shield than in your weapon.
1) someone than is a full tank, this would take knight and some stuff of the barbarian with some special shield skills 2) someone very skilled in shields, so there would be much more enhanced block, speed, etc 3) something like the mystic knight, but focused in the shield In all cases, i thought in some special advantages: Defensive stance: You can block not only the attempts of attack on you, but in every ally that is in close quarters with you, you also can make one attempt of block to an ally one step from you. You have to take a all out defense to this and declare that you are in defensive stance, you can only block as active defense. Sacrifice block: You can attempt a sacrifice dodge, if succeeded you can then roll against your block with -2, a success mean that you blocked the attack, a critical success mean that you landed well on the floor and is now in a crouched position Slide and block: If you have defensive stance, you can take a extra step per level, just for blocking attacks for your allies, but you cannot reach more than two steps from your original position. For the 3 case you have: Come back to me: You have a magical control of your shield, you can throw it and bring it back to your hand, you have a small control of it on the air. |

Re: Shield Specialist in DF
I just use Thrown Weapon (Disc) for most shields that are designed for throwing. Still need ideas for adjusting the range when resizing thrown weapons for different SMs, though.

DF8, Treasure Tables, has rules for modifying a small/light shield into a Throwing Shield and optionally Blade-edged, using Thrown Weapon (Disc).

Weapon Master (Shield) or Shoves and Tackles perk, Large Shield and Ramming Speed perk makes for a scary shield rush.

The Perks Shield Wall Training and Sacrificial Block are must haves for such a Character.

Re: Shield Specialist in DF
Couldn't Throwing Art be used to throw a shield? If so, would its damage bonus stack to WM bonus?
