Wonderful! Is there an estimate on the update's release? I'm sorry if all of this information is available somewhere else.

It's been sent to SJ Games for approval, and they've just got to post it. Unfortunately, no one here knows exactly when that will be.

In the meantime, however, it is possible to make most templates relatively easily. Essentially you build them just like a regular character and then save them to a data file, instead of as their own file. It has a few limitations and quirks, but for most things, it works just fine. If you want to know more, explanations are provided in numerous threads on this forum.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure I'll buy GCA on Friday after I'm paid.

GCA and GCS tackle the same problem but with different approaches. This means that they're going to appeal to different groups of people. I've recently tried GCS and quite like it. I found it intuitive and clean, yet flexible. Others have already posted to the thread that they prefer GCA and perhaps find it a bit more powerful. If you try one and don't care for it, it's quite possible the other will suit you more.

I like GCS because it can be run on a computer using Linux (Ubuntu).

I find GCA runs under Wine just as well, if not better, than it does on Windows with the caveat that you need to keep Wine up to date. Pre-1.0 Wine can run it but not well and the current 1.2-RC versions run it faster than Windows 7 on the same hardware in my opinion. Mind you, that's decent hardware, a low-end system might have trouble with it under Wine so YMMV.

I'm looking into this, now. I'm gathering that GCA will work with the latest Wine if you don't run the patch. Is that about it?

(I'd be using an ASUS eee running a smaller version of Ubuntu, that should work, right?)

Patching Wine or Patching GCA?

Check here for an explanation of how to get it running under Wine, but mostly you need to install riched20, riched32 and oleaut32 and the easiest way to do it is via Winetricks choosing "riched20" and "vb6run". The post there explains a lot more than that, but that the rough of it. (It helps to run GCA in its own Wine bottle and there's a few other tricks for cosmetic reasons.)
