Its possible that the deal for Discworld is that the hardcover has to come out first, or the same time. Or even that the license starts ticking when the hardcover comes, or that the powers that be suspect the PDF will cut into Hardcover sales and so on. I dont think it can be considered a normal PDF first then wait sometime and get book release. |

Maybe they'll do the same for the PDF of Tactical Shooting someday.

Re: The 2016 w23 Digital Release and Speculation Thread
As we start our weekly routine of hitting Refresh on the Warehouse 23 new products page, what's the chance that this month will be Dungeon Fantasy V? It makes sense, and we all know SMarsh has a DF slush pile.

Re: The 2016 w23 Digital Release and Speculation Thread
So I want to be clear before I say this that I'm not criticizing anyone. I've really enjoyed this speculation feed in the past, and I think Ghostdancer has done a fantastic job on it, especially since he's essentially working as a volunteer.
That being said, I'd like to suggest that we retire this thread in 2017. As much as I like the idea of a prediction thread, between releases coming less frequent, GURPS being directed more and more at digital releases, for which there's less fanfare ahead of time, and Steve Jackson Games shifting their money away from GURPS and more towards games like Munchkin, I can't remember the last time this thread predicted anything. Again, no one's fault, not blaming anyone, that's just the reality of the situation. If Ghostdancer wants to maintain the thread, obviously he can. It doesn't really bother me that the thread exists. I just wanted to voice my opinion that it's not really that useful, because I worry that he is simply maintaining it out of a sense of obligation. Anyway, I'd love to know what other people think. Discuss? |

Re: The 2016 w23 Digital Release and Speculation Thread
I had fully intended to wait until later on to say this, but... I won't be doing the thread in 2017. It's not that I dont' want to, it's that I have no time. My writing career is starting to go places other than RPG writing and my freetime is being sucked up fast. I'd also really like to concentrate on getting PWC back on its feet since it went to the wayside. So no, despite Roger's overwhelming support this year I won't be doing this again in 2017. However, saying that I REALLY hope someone takes over because this is a useful place to have everything located.

Twice a month like clockwork (one GURPS book, one issue of Pyramid) pretty much ever since the tide of Ogre receded. And even before then, the off weeks were usually filled with 3rd edition releases, which is a flow which would always have run out anyway. Been that way for years, and these threads were always about the digital releases anyway. Yeah, about that... These threads tend to end up with little to do in the way of real prediction, but they serve as a useful collection point for hints and rumors. I think they're useful.

Re: The 2016 w23 Digital Release and Speculation Thread
Pretty much what Matt said.
Yeah, it's slowly but surely getting there. If I can get into one more field I might be diverse enough to actually make a real living at this wordsmith thing. That said, I really want to stay as involved as I can here...but somethings got to give and I'd prefer to be able to answer rules questions vs. maintaining a thread if possible.
