Default Equip/unequip items outside the turn

Dear All,
Just a quick question: can I equip/unequip items that I am carrying even when it's not my turn? For example, to dissuade anybody from forcing me to help in combat?

Yes, as long as you are not in combat at the time.

Wouldn't this greatly weaken the Knee Pads of Persuasion? If you are allowed to unequip everything anytime someone wants to use them?

If you have already been told you are being persuaded are you considered in combat?

Also even if not persuaded yet, won't it get old for everyone without the knee pads to unequipped everything at the end of every one of their turns and reequip it all at the start?

You can't unequip your stuff as a reaction to being compelled to help. So you'd have to do it proactively -- which makes you a bad choice to help everyone else.

Maybe. Personally, I think it's ridiculous to do this to avoid having to help because of the Kneepads of Allure (or some similarly powered card), but it's legal according to the letter of the rules, maybe even the spirit.

Once someone uses the ability of Kneepads of Allure, you're in combat, and you can't un-equip your equipped Items while in combat.

I'm sure it will. Like I said, I think it's ridiculous, so the player(s) who do this usually eat a lot of Curses when playing at my table (when I'm not teach the game to new players, that is). I've never seen this particular strategy last more than a few turns.
