Default G.E.V. Revision History (and how it relates to Ogre 6e)

I posted this on BGG, but wanted to also talk about the relationship to Ogre 6e here.

I'm trying to establish G.E.V. revisions, and have come up a bit short. There are a number of cases where the Edition number is not specified.

1. 1978 Metagaming - 1st Edition - Obviously doesn't _say_ 1st Edition
2. Metagaming reprint with different cover artwork? (I don't have this one)
3. SJG Black Pocketbox - No edition stated (1st SJG Ed?)
4. Ogre/G.E.V. Orange Box - G.E.V. listed as 3rd Edition
5. Ogre/G.E.V. Black Box - No Edition stated (dated 2000)
6. Deluxe G.E.V. - No edition stated (dated 2001)

So as you can see, there are a number of these that simply don't state what edition of the rules they are (Ogre seems to be better about this). So does anyone know what the Edition listings are that go with the different releases of G.E.V.? Am I missing any?

Even assuming I can get answers to this, I'm left with two other questions:
1. What's the latest Edition of G.E.V.?
2. Does G.E.V. revisioning die when it's assimilated into Ogre 6E?

I imagine it'll get swallowed up in to 6e revisioning.

Most likely, yes.

I'm not an expert (but I play one on TV :), but for the board game (not the miniatures) I would say that the Y2K "5th Edition" where it's in the same box as Ogre is the current "definitive" edition. But note that there were some tidbits added/altered as per Steve Jackson via both the forums and unit descriptions and (perhaps, gotta check) the Errata.

I've also been pointed to the Ogre Ludography that covers most of the questions (there are still a couple assumptions, even in this official list.

I suppose that's likely to be as close as I'm going to get.

Actually, looking at the errata, I'm curious about this...

5.083 Effects on GEVs: A GEV approaching the edge of a body of water must end its movement phase at the edge of the water, and may neither move onto nor leave the water until its next movement phase. A road which slopes directly into water is considered to be a ramp, and any land that slopes directly into the water is considered a beach. A GEV which enters or leaves water via a ramp or beach may do so without stopping or incurring other penalties. GEVs using a ramp may still get the road bonus.

What I don't see being clear is how to determine what constitutes a beach hex. "any land that slopes directly into the water" is not exactly obvious on a 2D map. I assume its any "clear" hex?

That should probably be clarified in the 6e rules.

I think the concept of beach terrain was introduced for a specific scenario that appeared where the water/clear hexside in hex 2007 was considered beach. The purpose of the beach was to eliminate the necessity of a GEV from having to stop movement and wait until the next movement phase before being able to enter land.

Having all clear land/water hexsides be beach would pretty much negate the streams paragraph in 5.083. (Somewhere, it was clarified that each water/land hexside should be treated as a stream hexside for GEV movement purposes).

Clarification of this part of the rule in 6e would be a good thing.

This is the kind of serious rules stuff that I'm totally uninformed about, but is totally what 6e should be addressing.
