I have a Saturday night ritual. Cue up some podcasts on a mp3 player, walk a couple miles to a grocery store, buy a lottery ticket, pick up any groceries I need for the next day, check last week's lottery ticket, walk home.

Tonight's walk took me through a wetlands preserve / green space area. It's night, overcast, no lighting.I have an umbrella because it is drizzling.

At one point the path runs
under a corridor with high tension power lines running through it; the kind of thing no one builds under. I'm used to hearing a buzz under these things, but tonight it was more of a crackle, and . . .

. . . the hub of my umbrella was sparking.

Nothing dramatic, but there's this wee little arc of electricity zip-zapping around the hub. Looked down; more tiny sparks jumping from the base of the metal umbrella shaft to the ring that the ends of the canopy ribs fit into when the umbrella was closed. Fortunately the handle was dry and insulated.

I'm going to have to try that again.

This phenomena has . . . McGuyver potential.

Butt-shaped lamps that light up when you give them a spanking.

Also, Bearded men mistaken for ISIS.

Aer Lingus passenger suffered ‘horrible death’ on board flight

A 24-year-old man has died on board an Aer Lingus flight bound for Dublin after reportedly biting another passenger.

According to Irish police, the plane was forced to divert to Cork Airport after the man became agitated around an hour into the two-hour journey from Lisbon, Portugal.

The man then became unwell and fell unconscious after being restrained.

Along with the ever popular cover up. The woman believed to be accompanying the man was arrested upon landing. But no reason given for why.

Star 1480 ly away spotted with possible Dyson sphere mid-construction around it.

Odds are better that it's an oblate star with a lot of space junk around it, but it's hard to tell the two apart with the observations we have so far. They're hoping to tell if there's interesting radio coming from it within the next week, and are dedicating 6mos observation to it to try and figure out what's orbiting it.

There's a thread about it in Geeks Rule.

Wonder what the earth opened up to swallow?

Or, what's trying to emerge?
