Help understanding Pixies.
I keep reading threads about how the DF pixie template only has 1 HP however I can only see that it just has Fewer HP 4. Would that not leave the pixie at 6 hp? I am a tad confused.
EDIT: I am an idiot, by default characters have HP equal to ST. Leaving this post up for future idiot me. Last edited by RainbowFactory; 02-05-2018 at 09:41 PM. |

Re: Help understanding Pixies.
The pixie has -5 ST, which reduces it's starting ST to 5. HP is derived from ST, so another -4HP leaves it with exactly 1 HP. Beware area attacks (and normal attacks, and a stiff breeze, really)!

Re: Help understanding Pixies.
Pixies have ST-5 too. That means the default pixie has a ST of 5, therefore they a default of 5 HP.
HP-4 reduces that further to 1 HP. |

Keep in mind that these things aren't taboo traits to raise. It's just the base.

Re: Help understanding Pixies.
I'd probably change pixies to be Vulnerability (x4 damage from targeted attacks) and remove the -HP. Its a bigger disadvantage (-80 points instead of -8), means buying ST up or down doesn't have weird effects, and reflects having a small surface area and thus being not very vulnerable to area attacks.

Re: Help understanding Pixies.
Pixies are really, really small though, around 6" and 1 pound, so they are going to be really fragile. Of course, their weapons are also very small, so they are going to be very ineffective warriors (though they are more than adequate mages, which makes a pixie who knows Flame Jet or Fireball a very frightening opponent).

Going to be tough to hit with Blur on as well plus they are already flying.

Re: Help understanding Pixies.
A 6" tall humanoid that weighs 1 lb is ludicrously heavy (equivalent to a 6' human weighing 1728 lb), and ST 5 is also ridiculously high, so we're talking the equivalent of a solid metal statue, which really won't be all that flimsy.

Re: Help understanding Pixies.
Not flimsy compared to a real 6" tall animal, but quite so compared to even a house cat. Those human scaled arms and wings must be very very thin.
