base v effective skill for Magic Rituals
B237
In all cases, “skill” refers to base skill, not effective skill.I'm assuming this refers to ignoring modifiers like for Burning HP (immediately above) or the -1 or -3 per spell for maintaining (B238) or -1 per yard for Regular Spells (B239) or Long-Distance Modifiers for Information Spells (B241) Assuming these are all ignored when measuring the base skill for ritual requirements... what sort of limitation on magery (or maybe just a quirk?) would it be if penalties were applied (ie use effective skill not base) to calculate ritual requirements and FP discounts? I like the idea of suddenly, even if you have a bunch of 0 FP spells you can cast in 1/4 the time, that the distraction of maintaining many spells simultaneously, or trying to target foes further away, might somehow contribute towards needing to take more time, spend more FP, or fall back more on words/gestures you had previously been able to do without. - - - All of these are applied after knowing the base skill. But what about stuff that would contribute towards the base skill? Since the base skill is calculated using IQ, for example, if you suffered Affliction: -10 to IQ could that cause an increase in the ritual requirements, and take away your FP discounts? Or could getting a temporary +10 to IQ (or +10 to Magery) suddenly let you cast spells in less time and with less FP even if it was just a temporary state? What about temporary IQ penalties due to shock? |
