Thanks, man :) I hope when I grow up I can crunch as well as you can.

And yeah, those were some interesting 24 words. Kind of damn creepy

Your article has me particularly interested in this issue. I totally plan on getting it ASAP and am pretty sure I can make great use of it. This and CR's article have me kind of excited about Epic.

Oh, I get by. :-)

BEYOND creepy. The sheer normality of the tone of the statement affixed with the weirdness. The stuff nightmares are made of.

GURPS:WWII had that, determined by average Soldier skill level. The difficulty with that was that Soldier skill doesn't tend to get used much in actual play.

That's the GM's problem - he should be making it more useful in such a campaign. But it does give me an idea. I'll have to crack open my copy and see what I can see. Thanks for the pointer, I forgot there was even a section like that.

I regret I have found an error in the math of the "DF goes to war" article.
On page 12 the Phalanx it lists the 48 ave pikemen as TS 72 it should be TS 192.

I'd like to add that I love this article & am finding it very useful. Good work TBC.

Edit:
Additional Error
Page 13, the Company lists 10 Good Quality Medium Cav at TS:60. However Medium Cav is TS:3 *1.5 for good *10 = 45 not 60.
(Was it perhaps supposed to be ave med cav at TS:50? From the description of the troops it seem they are more Hvy cav than Med.)

One idea I was brainstorming for a campaign setting was a "Cities of the Red Night" setting, based on the book by William S. Burroughs. This was years ago in 2008 right when I bought into GURPS 4E. I decided instead to follow a different campaign setting, but I always wondered what I could have done to support this.

(Edit: I've actually found the old post.)

Now that I've skimmed this article, it looks like this could finally become an actual setting.

I'll just leave a quote from the book here:

Quote:
Tamaghis, Ba'dan, Yass-Waddah, Waghdas, Naufana, Ghadis

Repeating the words as one falls asleep is said to reveal the answer to any question in a dream.

[...]The words are names of cities that existed one hundred thousand years ago in an area corresponding to the Gobi Desert. Each city has a slightly different character. Tamaghis is city of "contending partisans" where "everything is as true as you think it is and everything you can get away with is permitted." Ba'dan is a city of commerce where "everything is true and everything is permitted." Yass-Waddah is a "female stronghold" where "everything is true and nothing is permitted except to the permitters." Waghdas is a university city where "complete permission derives from complete understanding." Naufana and Ghadis are both "cities of illusion where nothing is true and therefore everything is permitted."

The traveler must start in Tamaghis and make his way through the other cities in the order named. This pilgrimage may take many lifetimes.

When I saw the title, I was expecting it to be like the last article of the volume (by Marsh), but crunchier. Now I'm sad that there isn't more of it.

The Random Thought Table beginning text is very familiar. I think I remember seeing it, or a variant of it, in the Pyramid about Epic Magic.

...

And yes, I agree strongly with Steve Marsh. DnD's 3rd Ed. Epic Adventures handbook was a bit... uninspiring.

The only really fun thing about it where the monsters. Especially the undead-god-fetus (Atropal).
