Default Steel lance rules?

Are there rules anywhere for a steel lance, like the Uhlan cavalry used?

What sort of special rules are you looking for?

It's a long spear used with one had from horseback. In the TL5 period lancers were units of light cavalry and didn't make "shock" charges like medieval knights. The last units to do that may have been crazy Polish "winged" Hussars and their lances were something like 50% longer (and made to break under heavy impact). Winged hussars disappeared centuries before the WWI Imperial German army weapon you linked to.

So it's thrusting weapon with maybe an extra yard of Reach over a cavalry sabre. It's not the chivalric Lance you see in Basic.

Okay, are there rules for a couched-style lance made of steel?

Where are you looking for differences from any other type of lance?

You could probably assume it won't break unless it's being wielded with super strength somehow, but other than that?

I'm not aware of any specific rules for replacing the haft of a wooden weapon with steel, but you could model it as a Fine or Very Fine lance.

Yep, I think that's the right path. Perhaps even give it an Armour Divisor of 2, if it's anachronistic and up against armour that wasn't designed at the time to deal with it (it might have more mass, more rigidity, and a more consistent sharpness).

Because of TL5, you can treat it as Long Spear with Butt Spike of Fine Quality (at no additional cost) or Very Fine Quality (at Fine Quality cost) and entirely made of steel (the weapon gets DR 6 instead of DR 4).

Thanks for the replies.

Does anyone have thoughts about weight of a couched-style lance made of steel?

That's great, thank you!

I think, however the calculated changes should be for 'sticks' rather than 'hafted weapons' since a lance has no head:

Quote:
Cost and Weight: For hafted weapons, add $80 to cost and 2
lbs. to weight per yard of maximum reach. For sticks, multiply
cost by five and weight by two – but minimum cost is $20 per
pound of adjusted weight.
Giving:
Steel Lance, $300, 8lb., ST14.
