Cthulhu Dice praise thread
I've been going to a friend's house twice a week for months now, to engage in various tabletop RPGs, and this weekend we were waiting for a couple more people to show up, so I grabbed a set of Cthulhu Dice out of my car to kill the time.
I am always amazed at how much a group of people can enjoy a quick, simple, straightforward game like this. There is very little depth or strategy, but it never tanks when I pull it out. Everyone has a good time, we kill a half hour or so (with a few rounds, of course), and it's wonderful. I've got three copies at the moment - Sparkly Pink, Blue with Yellow ink, and Black with Green ink - with plans to buy many more. Why? Because they're awesome dice. I'm working on two different games (including one tabletop RPG) that makes more use of these dice. I'd also love to see an expansion that takes the form of Investigators (with magnifying-glass icons, book icons, etc). I don't know what the rules would be, but a way to incorporate new elements. What say you, fellow dicers? How do you rate Cthulhu Dice?

So far I have every color that's been released. While one Cthulhu Dice game is enough for most people, I started buying more because of the anomalous chance of scoring big in Munchkin with Whim of the Elder Gods. Once I had nine though, it was hard to stop. I can't wait to start clacking around the metal ones!

And on this page, it says "In production."
http://www.sjgames.com/dice/cthulhudice/metal.html And my FLGS (Wonko's in NW Austin) says they can't yet get it.

Re: Cthulhu Dice praise thread
My friends and I enjoy the game and I have collected all the varieties too. I also have my dice bags (Purple and Green) (I am missing the Black /GITD one tho :( )
Only problem with one bag full of marbles its hard to get a single colour set of them :p It is such a great time filler and good game!

Re: Cthulhu Dice praise thread
Got two more copies today. I picked up red with yellow ink and ice blue with white ink. The ice blue with white ink is simply amazing, and the tokens that come with it are amazing as well.
Are these dice injection-molded or compression-molded? Or are they made with some other method?

Re: Cthulhu Dice praise thread
Here is an idea:
I have all the colours of CD so I have many colours glass tokens and I have changed the game a little for fun. I take 3 colours of the glass tokens. I make it like a "War of the Mind" as I call it. 3 Generals 6 Captains 21 or so minions/pawns/soldiers. You work your way up the "chain of command" to kill the general making him "Mad" pardon the pun.... The dice rolls are the same, game lasts a bit longer and more fun since you can steal minions then when they are all gone then get the captains and then generals last. Really creates alot of tension and fun as you loose men in your army to others or Chthulu. If you loose all your tokens you are out. The last man standing is the winner and is less MAD as it were... Try it. Let me know how it went. |
