Ah. That does sound like it makes these two orthogonal axes.

Today, I take a closer look at what it's all about: Force Swordsmanship from GURPS Martial Arts. How well does it stack up against what we've seen so far?

3e force swords I believe did actual cutting damage as swords

Re: Mailanka's Musings -- GURPS Content Post
That could be, and would explain the mistake, but they don't do it in 4e, and this version of Force Swordsmanship is published in 4e, which makes it an oversight. Either they need to note a change in the rules, or they should have removed that targeted attack. Martial Arts goes further to introduce a force saber, which is actually a weapon I like a lot, so it's not like they don't know the mechanics of force swords. I chalk it up to "Oops!"

Bah! Enough with lightsabers! Let's talk about Blasters and the Way of the Galaxy.

Re: Mailanka's Musings -- GURPS Content Post
Happy GURPS day! Today, I've got two posts for you! First, I take a look at Ishin-Denshin, a psionic hand-to-hand style from the estimable Christopher Rice. Then, as a bonus, an analysis of Force Sword and Buckler Combat, a style by Kelly Pederson.

Re: Mailanka's Musings -- GURPS Content Post
Alright, this week I kick off the last of my martial arts analyses with Breaking Down Psi-Wars Tactics. The last two weeks, I've looked at Star Wars and how GURPS handles most of that, but Psi-Wars already has some built-in assumptions. I take a look at those and how the above will likely play out in them, noting weaknesses or strengths of particular tactics or approaches.

Re: Mailanka's Musings -- GURPS Content Post
One thing that comes to mind is the Star Wars features a lot of asymmetric equipment
You have Stormtroopers (wearing armor) and Battle Droids (which admittedly don't seem to be armored for the basic ones) carrying long arms going up against people who fit into the 'Side Arms and Street Wear' category The lightsabre seems an interesting artifact in that it is conveniently suited both for casual wear and the battlefield So potentially it must be considered that people could be minding their own business, wearing street clothes and only carrying side arms, and say going to Space Wal-Mart to pick up groceries, when all of a sudden, wham, time to rumble with people in full battle rattle (this admittedly was one of my favorite tropes when I ran Star Wars a lot, even something mundane like 'lets go get new filters for the air conditioner on the ship because it is getting clogged with Wookie hair' can end up with epic battles) |
