From the August 8th (latest as of this post) Palladium Books weekly update:

We had a pleasant chat before the hall opened up to catch up a bit on each other’s lives. Steve and I came up together in the game industry and always liked and respected each other. We had talked about doing something together, off and on for decades. A few hours later, Phil Reed invites me to come over to the SJG booth to chat. It was a very friendly, joyful conversation. More about the outcome of that meeting in the months ahead as we nail things down together. I’m excited. You will be too.

If nothing else, Palladium and Steve Jackson Games are two of the oldest private RPG companies that have remained continuously running.

If the answer is not GURPS Rifts, then I have no idea what it could be.

Much more likely to be about how Munchkin TMNT came together.

Palladium was not involved in that project.

After hearing about Palladium's right to Robotech I've given up understanding how they licence products. But more the case in point that if Steve Jackson was in the story I doubt it has anything to do with GURPS.

They did a Savage Worlds version, so I wouldn't be surprised. I'd also not be surprised if it turned out to be a DF version of Palladium's Fantasy world.

However, what I really think it will be is Munchkin Rifts.

Dang. That’s good and I can’t believe I didn’t think of it, wanting GURPS Rifts or Rifts meets Ogre.

Palladium's Fantasy is a really good setting with rather mediocre rules.

Savage Rifts probably precludes a GURPS Rifts.

It is a good world; Palladium Books has long been good at making worlds but not at making rules, the opposite of Steve Jackson Games. However, I don’t think the Palladium Fantasy world is marketable outside of the Palladium fan base. Savage Rifts wouldn’t preclude GURPS Rifts unless the license to Pinnacle granted it exclusivity, which I find doubtful.
