Beneficial Afflictions and Aura : use benefit?
Affliction (Advantage +20% Reduced Duration 1/30 -30% Melee -30% Aura +80%) [12]
Advantage is HP+1 [2] effect: if people touch user when aura is switched on, they roll HT, success gives MoS*2 seconds of +1 HP Normally you can target yourself with your own afflictions (Melee Attack or Ranged) to get that +1 HP (at the cost of regularly using Attack maneuvers to refresh) Would aura prevent you from giving yourself +1 HP due to not counting as "touching yourself" to explain how a 40pt Small Fire Elemental (M76) isn't gradually killing itself w/ 11s/12s unless DR is boosted? If that's the case then I think you'd need Selectivity to switch off Aura and then you'd be able to use it like a normal melee attack, but you'd basically never have the option of "free action self affliction" like you would w/ "free action ally affliction" ? I wondered if maybe it'd be okay to allow aura to self-harm but only where you actually touch one part to another, but not simply for existing? IE if you crit fail and punch yourself in the leg then you burn yourself, or if you WANT to burn yourself you can just punch youself in the chest. If you WANT to affect yourself (as with a beneficial aura) then you could probably just do a grapple and maintain it for free, in which case you could add "requires grapple" to your aura to get a further -10% discount if you don't mind the downside that you can't benefit allies who merely touch you instead of grapple you. Self-grappling can in theory miss as an attack roll (you can in theory catch air aiming at your own chest's -0 if you had DX1 even pulling out the +8 for AOA:determined+Telegraphic, 9 or less fails 62.5% of rolls‡) but I'm wondering if maybe self-grappling should be allowed as an automatic success on a Ready maneuver like how it is when grabbing a weapon on your person, as it shouldn't be harder to pay palm-to-pec as it is to grab an arrow in your quiver. |
