Default Dora or Schwerer Gustav Railway guns WOW!

Just looking at he Dora or Schwerer Gustav Railway guns, Wow!

Langer Gustav
The Langer Gustav was a long cannon with 52 centimetre (20.5 in) calibre and a 43-metre barrel. It was intended to fire super-long-range rocket projectiles weighing 680 kilograms to a range of 190 kilometres (118 mi).

This gave it the range to hit London from Calais, France.

Schwerer Gustav Calibre 80cm

Barrel Length 32.5 m!

Range 39-48 km ! (30 miles)

Total length 47.3 m

Weight 1350 tons !

Ammo: 7100 kg with 250 kg explosive filling (concrete piercing); gulp!
4800 kg with 700 kg explosive filling (high explosive) double gulp!

It fired 800mm Shells.

Is it treated as a big artillery piece? As in shell loaders and an aimer or would their be some type of chain of command to fire?.

Who would be using the beast, I take it it must of been a Wehrmacht Artillery Division or would it be a specially trained group?

I found a book on Dora but it's all in German , surprisingly!. Any info would be useful. These were some weapons, I don't suppose anyone has any stats for it?

Quite big, yes.

Wikipedia has a decent primer on it.

Yes it's a good primer but nothing on the feeding and using this monster!.

It's a pity the Landkreuzer P. 1500 Monster wasn't built. Imagine the stats for that thing. It makes you wonder what they needed to destroy with this. It would be like a ww2 death star.

Roll for Shell Shock!

In most gaming contexts, a weapon of this scale is either an objective or a background element. It can't really engage with PCs, and PCs can't possibly survive if it even comes close to hitting them.

...As you say, a bit like a Death Star. The main gun is a narrative effect rather than something that actually interacts with the combat system.

Eh, you have to look at it in perspective. That's big... for artillery. But this is WWII, and there's bombers out there. A Tallboy was 5,400 kg -- of which 2,400 kg was explosives.

Yes, a Tallboy went 70 feet into normal earth and made a hole 70 feet deep and a hundred feet wide. It also pierced 16 feet of reinforced concrete. You might think you were safe if your ceiling were 20 feet of reinfoced cocnrete but the Tallboy would collapse those after it exploded.

With an elite crew and a state of the art bombsight it was also far, far likelier to hit its' target than artillery shells lobbed somehere into the right postal code area.

Those artillery shells also had shorter ranges than the bombers that could be sent after them. You might as well get excited over the US Navy perfecting the cutlass with their model of 1917.

Nice!

heh, although I think 7.5t round is going to end up Cr not Pi++, might prove important if you use over penetration rules ;-)
