[GURPS Repository] The D&D Monster Conversion Thread
As you all know, or at least as you all should know, the GURPS Repository has its own D&D Conversion subsection. And the biggest subpage of that section are the conversions of D&D monsters, which so far has 103 entries. I'd like to expand on that section.
And for me, the logical starting point for monsters to convert is the 3.5 Monster Manual, since much of it is available online as part of the d20 SRD. In fact, I've created another subpage which lists all the monsters from that book, so that we can get a better grasp of what is already done and what still needs to be done. And finally, a list of player character races from the book:
The list entries which contain links have already been done and exist in the wiki - but plenty more remain. I think many of these monsters have already been converted elsewhere, by other GURPS gamers. Where can we find those entries and (more importantly) can we get the authors' permissions to repost them in the wiki? Even then, plenty of gaps will remain. Who is willing to write up conversions for the remaining monsters?

I think you're biting off too big a bite at this point.
This should be a bunch of smaller projects. Start with a smaller book, like Monsters & Treasure, then move onto Greyhawk, Blackmoor, Eldritch Wizardry, Holmes Basic, Moldvay Basic, Cook Expert, Mentzer Basic, Mentzer Expert, and so on. Use the 3e stats since they're easier to put into GURPS terms (namely, monsters have attributes and their sizes are obvious), but go in terms of smaller blocks. For example, there are only about 30 monsters in Monsters & Treasure that are not already in DF or on your wiki, so getting a project going to get them translated is more likely to be successful. |
